If you're in the area and see that open flag waving on Highway 59, make sure you stop by! My family and I love their flavor choices. They have a great selection of toppings and "they got the good ice"!

Every day in Abita Springs is like a new chapter in a fairy tale. Beautiful cottage home styles in the historic district. Quaint, quiet, new town activities every week with local weekly music, good food, plus a great history (might remind one of Carmel, CA).
  • The largest garage sale event in our area takes place in Abita Springs. This small town comes together to every spring to throw the largest garage sale and flea market in the center town of Abita Springs. Visitors and locals can find some wonderful treasures while browsing!

For over a hundred years, people have flocked to Abita Springs for a sip of our free flowing artesian water. Today, Abita Springs offers that and so much more. Come cycle on the Tammany Trace and take a break at the historic museum or spend the day with the family at the beautifully refurbished park and cool off with the kids on the Splash Pad. Even though Abita Springs has been one of the fastest growing communities in the state, it has been able to maintain its small town charm. From walking on the Tammany Trace to visiting the town museum at the Trailhead, playing in the park or eating at one of our local restaurants there is always something to do. Abita Springs also hosts festivals and special events throughout the year like the Abita Springs Opry, the Cajun Dance, and the Mardi Gras Push-Mow Parade. There is family Bingo every Friday night at the Town Hall and outdoor movie night on the great lawn of the park the first Saturday of the month. Both small businesses and national chains offer virtually all necessary goods and services in a convenient small town setting, far removed from the congestion of neighboring communities and thoroughfares. Abita Springs is a great place to live whether you're just starting out, retiring or somewhere in between.
  • If you want a real life experience you must visit The Abita Mystery House soon. It houses many displays of local folk art. One of the most unique attractions is Bufford the Bassigator. This unusual attraction is a must see for locals and visitors of Abita.
  • Abita Springs is a small town that was originally known for one thing, water. Originally there was a well, that was located in the center of town (now the fruit stand). It had 4 spouts and people would come from all over to fill empty milk jugs with this fabulous water. When the Abita water company opened, the spouts were redirected to Abita Park. The spouts were then cut down to two spouts.

The pavilion located in the Abita Park was originally brought over from the Worlds Fair (Paris) in 1884 and has hosted many weddings, parties and functions. It was originally set approximately 500 feet back from where it now stands. Town Hall, (another rentable venue) is home to the public water company and Mayors office. You can catch the Abita Opry there once a month or a family game of bingo on Friday nights. Contact Town Hall to see about using it now.

The Mystery House was a gas station that was abandoned for years. However, being a historic landmark it couldn't be torn down, so it was converted into the Mystery House. It's located right across the street from St. Tammany Trace on Hwy 36 heading to Hickory. You never know what you will find there! The interesting thing about the Tammany Trace is it use to be the railroad tracks until the trains stopped running. It was converted to the Tammany Trace in the late 1980's. The trace is patrolled for safety daily and you can walk, run, bicycle, and even ride a horse down it. However, there are no pets allowed on it.

Abita hosts a Water Festival and a whole town garage sale every year. The food and entertainment are always great. You never know what kind of treasure you might find.

The Abita Beer Company is what brought us to the map. They make a variety of beers that can be found all over the world including root beer! It started out where the Abita Brew Pub is located and has since moved to Hwy 36 heading into Covington. They still offer tastings and a tour.

Abita is a spectacular area. It kind of reminds me of what Mayberry would be like. Words to the wise, bring your bike or rent one and enjoy the beauty of small town charm.

One of the best spots on the North Shore is the Abita Springs Trailhead, where you'll find a museum with the history of this incredible historic town, an area for frequent local entertainment, and a wonderful play area and splash pad for the kiddos. Just steps away, you'll also find the Abita Pub, where you can sit outside on the patio to take it all in while enjoying a variety of locally brewed beer. Living in Abita Springs is truly writing your very own fairy tale that just keeps going and going and going!

Every year just at the start of spring Abita Springs host the annual Busker Music Festival on the banks of the Abita River. Local music, crafts and great food are always plentiful. I had some of the best fried catfish smothered in a crawfish etouffee and it was amazing. The only thing better than the food was the kind people and natural beauty of Abita Springs.
