I love beautiful gardens. Spring brings so many creative green thumbs out to fill their yards with color only nature can provide. I am not a green thumb. I am the opposite of green, brown maybe? I don't even know the plants that I just purchased that are in my yard. I have two criteria when purchasing plants:

    1. Is it maintenance free?
    2. Am I planting it in the right spot?

After that, the plant is basically on its own. Now I do water the poor guys, but that's about it. Lucky for me, the gardener at the nursery recommended Knock Out Roses. Who doesn't love roses? He assured me they require no work like traditional roses. So far so good, the red beauties are going strong. Thank you to all you green thumbs who provide a lovely show for us brown thumbs!

King Cakes are everywhere! New Orleanians are very opinionated about their King Cakes. You could drive a few miles tracking down your favorite. Lucky for Lakeview residents, bakers have brought their tasty treats to the neighborhood.

Dong Phuong King Cakes are at Pizza Nola. Their website says they'll even deliver to you; how easy is that?

Chris' Specialty Meats is selling Haydel's King Cakes.

Nola Beans has Randazzo's Camelia City King Cakes and the fabulous and beautiful Debbie Does Doberge King Cake. Heaven right?

Then of course our fabulous Lakeview Grocery has their own, I mean you go for milk and you can't resist the boxes of king cakes right when you walk in!!

Don't have a favorite, like 'em all? Try a different king cake this year, after all you don't even need to leave the neighborhood.
  • Lakeview is a great location for small business owners. One such business, Muddy Mutts, rests at the end of West Harrison. Bring your dog in for a self service bath and peruse the shop for a special treat, including toys, food, and more! Muddy Mutts is another reason Lakeview has everything you need!
  • Lines will wind onto the sidewalk and down the street as locals wait to get tickets for the annual summer musical put on by a local Lakeview church. St. Luke's (on Canal Blvd) is known for entertaining the neighborhood and beyond with fantastic musicals each summer. You can drive down the street and watch locals set up lawn chairs and enjoy visiting and playing while they anticipate each day's show. Don't miss it!
  • One of the many reasons to live in Lakeview...Lakeview Community Playground! This fantastic playground is complete with a play structure for a broad age range, picnic space, and lots of green space for kids to run! This playground is also wonderful as a birthday party venue, and many local families are seen celebrating here! This is just one of the many reasons to choose Lakeview as your family's home!
  • Drive down West Harrison to visit Lakeview's family friendly restaurant, The Backyard! While seating is available indoors, the "Backyard" is the place to be for kids and adults alike. Relax at one of the casual, umbrella covered, picnic tables and watch your kids play on the playground equipment provided by "The Backyard." This is a great venue for adults to visit while they watch their kids play in a safe and contained environment. You can even order from the take out window outside! "The Backyard" is just one of the many reasons Lakeview is a wonderful place for families!

Lakeview residents and visitors have spring fever! Local restaurants with outdoor seating are filled; the Velvet Cactus, Mondo, El Gato Negro, The Backyard, and Koz's among others. Drive, bike, or walk out to the lakefront and view the sailboats coming and going. Who wouldn't want to live here?

Chef Susan Spicer is well known in the city for her wonderful, tasty dishes. I love dining at this restaurant because it meets the goal Susan wanted. According to her site, she states "Mondo is the restaurant I've been wanting to open for years — a comfortable, neighborhood place with friendly, professional service, a variety of great food and unique but moderately priced wines, beers and spirits. We'll always bring you the best of our local harvest and reach across the globe for authentic ingredients in our quest to make simple, delicious food that's accessible no matter what neighborhood you're from".
