Bossier City Area Insight

  • My husband and I eat breakfast here several times a week. The staff is super friendly, the service is excellent and the food is delicious! There are two other locations in Shreveport that I am sure are just as good. But the Bossier location makes you feel like you are eating among friends. If you haven't tried it, you must!

On this Eve of Fathers' Day, I wish for fathers throughout our Bossier City community a wonderful tomorrow. Father is a word, but has many meanings that connect everyone's emotions. Father's Day is the celebration of the fatherhood that every son and daughter wish to celebrate to make the father happy. A tangible gift is certainly appreciated, but is there something you always wanted to tell him but haven't? Is there a memory you've never told him you cherish or thanked him for something he did for you along the way? I challenge you to lavish your father with love and thanksgiving. If your father is not in your life or in this earthly life, cherish memories that will make this day special for you. Happy Father's Day!

It had been a while since we decided to dine at Four Winds Asian Restaurant, an extraordinary Horseshoe Bossier City fine dining experience. Four Winds is an Asian restaurant that combines five distinct cuisines, presenting authentic samplings of Cantonese, Mandarin, Szechwan, Vietnamese and Thai.

We decided to choose the combo platter as an appetizer. We shared a large portion of golden fried prawns, BBQ pork ribs, crab rangoons, Peking roast pork loin and split the spring roll. My main course was the Mongolian Beef which consisted of marinated strips of beef which was wok-fried with extra green scallions and yellow onions in a spicy Mongolian sauce. The remainder of the menu at Four Winds, in my opinion, offers a more astounding variety than any Bossier City restaurant, ranging from lemon grass soup and Western Australian rock lobster to Manila clams. I was told that daily fresh fish specials are also featured, and four salt-water tanks showcase live delicacies such as fresh lobster and Dungeness crabs.

With such a dazzling selection, you will certainly have your pick from some of the most delicate and flavorful culinary masterpieces that Asian cuisines have to offer. I definitely recommend.

If you are looking for something exciting to do this weekend, I strongly consider you check out Willie Nelson's concert. This Legendary American musician will perform Saturday, February 13, at Horseshoe Casino and Hotel's Riverdome at 8:00 p.m. He set the bar for country music with a music career that dates back since the 1950s. He is the ultimate American musical hero. I have seen him countless times, most recently, last year in Shreveport and I have never been disappointed. I love seeing him.

CenturyLink Center is an excellent venue if you're looking for some amazing entertainment that is reasonably priced. I went to the Barry Manilow Concert at CenturyLink this past year and it was a memorable performance. He has "hit the road" again performing concerts across North America one last time. His "One Last Time" tour stopped in Bossier City this past January 30.

I recently read that he has performed more than 400 concerts at the Las Vegas Hilton and Paris Las Vegas from 2005 through 2011, with limited concert appearances. The One Last Time tour could be the last opportunity to see this icon in concert. I was most excited to hear him perform his hit song, "Mandy," which topped the charts in 1975. Amazingly, tickets were priced to tie into that year, starting at $19.75! Manilow insisted average ticket prices remain low, making a better range of tickets available. What a guy!

As Kroger has now been open for a few months, we've begun to see all the additional growth that comes with its presence. New restaurants have popped up all along the north Airline Corridor in front of the mega grocery center. A gas station that had been abandoned for nearly half a decade has been bought and will be transformed into Bossier's own Twisted Root Burger restaurant. Keep up as Bossier continues to show no signs of slowing down!

I am pressed to share, I am reminded of some of the most bittersweet times of my life. I am reminded of many who have not made it this far in life after military service. Many of them are walking the streets homeless, addicted, in prison, psychiatric institutions or dead. Yet there are some that have managed some sense of normalcy as they have navigated the course of their lives, many without struggle. Soldiers are trained to defend our country to the death. They take an oath to serve and defend this country and the trade off is mental illness, lack of social readjustment, drug addiction, alcoholism and the struggle to fit into a society that needs to be defended, but far too often, not provide the tools and training for social readjustment as a reentry tool of support coming back into the society they left. So today, I,once again celebrate the victory of those that overcome adversity to live long, healthy and active lives for themselves and those that love them and I continue to pray for the still sick and suffering. Thank you again for freedom because it is definitely not free.

If you're looking for a place to enjoy a football game in Bossier City, then Daq's Wings & Grill is the place for you! We went this past weekend for the LSU vs. Alabama game, and although the game didn't turn out the way we wanted, the food and atmosphere sure was amazing! I highly recommend their lemon pepper wings!

The much-anticipated Kroger Marketplace, located at 1050 George Dement Blvd at Airline Drive, next door to the Super Wal-Mart will hold its Grand Opening on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. So much in store, no pun intended, including delicious artisan foods that you can eat there or take with you. You can also have access to fresh produce including seasonal fruits and vegetables, including some of which are locally grown and organic choices.

The meat section touts fresh cuts, organic choices and ready-to-cook entrees, each and every day for those of us who are juggling family and work.

There'll be specialty cheeses, both old favorites and exotic new flavors! Cheeses from all over the world and a taste experience like no other will be readily available to you.

OMG! There's a Starbucks with its handcrafted beverages.

Meet me there or beat me there!

Have a Happy Halloween. Most importantly, keep it safe. If you're looking for a safe haven to take your little ones (and not-so-little ones), consider The Louisiana Board. My church, perhaps others donated candy and other goodies, so they should be able to get lots. Also, remember to set your clocks back before turning in tonight.

Have you been waiting on the right time to buy that special piece of furniture? Just saw an Ashley Furniture television commercial. Appears they're piggy backing on the Back To School tax free weekend by offering to triple the 4% sales tax exclusion. They have three locations in Shreveport/Bossier. Viking Drive in Bossier City and, on the Shreveport side, Youree Drive (Bayou Walk) and West 70th Street.

TGIF! Working hard today so I can play hard this evening. Looking forward to seeing Pat Green in concert at Horseshoe Casino's Riverdome. If you have your tickets, great, because it's sold out. Got to see him about this time last year at The Stage here in Bossier City and he is an awesome artist. His claim to fame includes about 15 of his singles on "Billboard's Hot Country Songs". The best of the best is "Wave On Wave" from his album of the same name. Concert starts at 8 p.m., so we're doing dinner before at Four Winds Asian Restaurant, just across the hall from the Dome. Been craving their Chinese Dumplings for a while In Bossier City we work hard and play hard. Okay, back to work. Have a good weekend and stay hydrated if you're going to be outside, expecting heat index to be in the triple digits throughout.

Once again WalMart does an excellent job with building a nice, small grocery store and gas station conveniently located for north Bossier City residents. This grocery story has a bakery, fresh vegetables, meats and all the food items you would expect from a big grocery store. Close to Stockwell Place Elementary School.
