Scholastique Picou Breaux founded the adorable town of Breaux Bridge when she was only 33. She was a strong and determined woman. She took her time and drew up a community plan called Plan de la Ville du Pont Breaux. This became her master plan for the Village of Breaux Bridge. This plan included everything a Village needed to grow, including a school, a church, streets, and a map with a detailed drawing of her late husband's bridge. Her next step was to sell lots and establish the Village, which she did in August of 1829, founding Breaux Bridge.

She married at a young age and had five children. Unfortunately, she was widowed at the age of 32. This loss caused her many financial issues. But those issues motivated her to start developing the plan for Breaux Bridge. She later remarried and had two more children to add to her family.

Scholastique Breaux's story is one of determination and courage. This Acadian woman set a high example for all local women. She symbolizes everything that hard-working Acadians of Louisiana are!

The first weekend in May transforms our town into this amazing mystical event. The Crawfish Festival is that one, must experience Cajun Festival. Where you will find the most amazing food that will delight your pallet, Cajun zydeco music, seasoned band, and young children captivating their dreams, Crawfish royalty, arts and crafts, carnival rides and carnival food, lots and lots of Crawfish cooked every different way, and cold beer.

This is one festival you don't want to miss.

St Bernard Catholic School is one of the only schools in the area that has a music program that captivates the Cajun French music.

On any given day, if you are at SBS you will get to meet a special man Mr Christoph. He is not only our French teacher but he heads up our Cajun French music group. All while greeting each and every child with a sweet smile. He truly is a special teacher.

There are children playing the fiddle, guitar, and other instruments all singing in French. They are so very talented and it truly amazes me their enthusiasm each and every time they show up to make their music. These kids are are also trained by Brazos Huval locally in Breaux Bridge.

I challenge you, if you have interest in moving to Breaux Bridge or live here now come check out our amazing school. Our cheer for Jesus rallies or mass every Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. You will be just as amazed as I am every time I get to hear those precious children sing.

It's time again this year for the Breaux Bridge City Wide Garage. 100 plus vendors and just plain folk bring out all their stuff and sell it. This year it will be held Friday October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd. This year Sunday has been removed. If you want to have a great time hunting for bargains and just great stuff, this is the place to be. I have found some really cool things and do not recommend missing it for your life.
  • Not only is Breaux Bridge a great place to live, this charming little town offers tourists some of the best bed and breakfasts around. For a true old time Cajun feel, Bayou Cabins offers quaint cabins along Bayou Teche that are beautiful, comfortable, and clean. They also offer some of the best boudin, cracklin's and hogshead cheese around.

In the summer, they host weddings and the location with its courtyard are perfect for events. When the music is playing, you cannot avoid moving your feet when you hear that ole Cajun and Creole music being played. I heard Elvis stayed here but that fact has not been confirmed. Isabelle Inn Bed & Breakfast offers old time Southern charm being designed to look like an old plantation but was actually built in the 70's.

My personal favorite is Country Charm Bed & Breakfast. Imagine laying in a hammock under 200 year old Evangeline Oak trees, playing a game of horseshoes. When was the last time you played horseshoes? Take your honey on a daytime or moonlit canoe ride on their private lake or go fishing for brim, perch, bass and catfish. Oh, and I haven't even said anything about their great food! This place is so cool, it was featured in Southern Living Magazine. No matter which one of these you choose, it's all good.
  • The Breaux Bridge City Wide Garage Sale will be held this year October 3-5. It offers over 100 garage sales in the immediate area, an outdoor Flea Market with vendors selling garage sale items, antiques, crafts, food and more. The quirkiness of this event with pretty much an entire town just bringing out their stuff to sell is what keeps me coming year after year. I am proud to say that last year, I found and purchased a professional doctor's scale for $10 bucks that I currently use everyday. One of our church brothers purchased a book from the 1800's for $100.00 that was well worth a lot more than that. It's just a really fun three days when you can do a little bit of everything. Eat, enjoy music, shop, people watch or just plain sit in the park in the middle of town. Trust me, this is an event not to be missed.
  • Since moving here from Florida, Buck & Johnny's has become one of my favorite places for pizza and Italian food. They have a large selection of different pizzas and crust, even some with crab and alligator sausage which is a novelty where I come from. The whole wheat crust tastes as good as regular if you want to go a tad healthier. The Bayou Blast is their version of gourmet pizza: red sauce, cheddar cheese, crawfish, alligator sausage, tasso, shrimp, jalapenos and onions. The taste, exceptionally yummy. The margharita pizza and mufuletta are a must. Also, the atmosphere and service are really good. Since I live in Breaux Bridge, I truly feel lucky to have this gem of a restaurant in our town. When hungry, I just hop in my car, drive five minutes and chow down.
  • On Saturday mornings, Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Bridge hosts the Zydeco Breakfast. It is an opportunity to have an incredible breakfast while listening to great Zydeco music from local musicians and dancing the morning away. Before I first went, I thought dancing in the morning? Believe me, the food is great, music good and dancing fun.
  • The feeling of community where my grocer knows me by my first name and I can wake up with a cup of coffee and sit under my carport to view the beautiful sunrise over the sugar cane fields. Watching all kinds of birds and hearing their song from cardinals, to blue jays and the tiny hummingbirds who come zipping around to visit my feeder every year. Going to lunch on Sunday mornings after church with my family and enjoying fellowship with friends at one of many great restaurants in town. Walking across the old bridge into my town whose beauty and flavor has to be seen to and felt to be believed. Watching the Christmas and Mardi Gras parades held every year and enjoying the music at the Crawfish Festival. Going to the citywide garage sale and finding all kinds of neat things to buy and finally just living in peace in the country while having the city only a couple of miles away. Paradise? I know so.
  • Breaux Bridge is a charming town located East of Lafayette that offers affordable homes, great places to eat. It is the home to the Crawfish Festival, which plays host to thousands of locals and visitors every year. You will not find a nicer place to live where the people are the warmest and friendliest around.
