  • The City of Lake Charles has really taken great pride in showcasing the Southwest Louisiana culture throughout the boardwalk. When exiting off I-10 into the heart of Lake Charles, you will find the beginning of the boardwalk and entrance into the Veteran's Memorial Park. Lake Charles honors its past, present and future service members with a grand American Flag, statues, and military vehicles. After paying respects to these men and women, you can meander down the path to park benches and picnic tables along the lake front. The local ducks and geese will greet you as you cross a bridge and find yourself in front of a tranquil fountain. Further down the boardwalk you can fish, dock your boat or maybe even crab off the steps of the seawall.

Our great city of Lake Charles was able to obtain a meaningful piece of history from Ground Zero. The display embodies what the community is built upon...strength and relentlessness. Directly across from this display is the Amphitheater, where on spring and summer afternoons you and your family can enjoy local entertainment, fitness events, and fair rides. Building upon the family atmosphere there, Millennium Park is full of tree house type structures, swings, bridges, slides and tunnels. Kids imaginations can run free and parents can sit back and relax. Adjoining Millennium Park is a small water park/splash pad to escape the southern heat. Topping off the journey through the boardwalk, the city has recently added boat slips so local boat owners or travelers can park their boats.

Prien Lake Park is a 29-acre park on Prien Lake just south of the I-210 bridge. It features walking paths with measurement markings, canoe and boat launches, kids' playground and Spray Ground Water Park. The park has numerous picnic areas, an Amphitheater, two pavilions and free Wi-Fi.

It overlooks Indian Bay on the eastern shore of Prien Lake, a waterway where 19th century schooners once sailed. Visitors to Prien Lake Park can enjoy a harbor of trees, grass, flowers, fountains, and streams, with a sweeping view of Prien Lake, the I-210 Bridge and magnificent sunsets over the water. Prien Lake Park offers recreation and relaxation to all ages and is very pet friendly. Come enjoy!

A while back, my wife's Suburban was making some squealing noises when she applied her brakes. I suggested that she go see Tom Kersch, the owner of Professional Automotive at 5510 Common Street in Lake Charles. Now, I know most of you are thinking "That was dumb! She's going to get a complete brake job and you'll be out several hundred dollars." Well, you'd be wrong! Tom checked it out and all that was wrong was a worn brake pad which he replaced for under $100. I've sent many friends to Tom and they all tell me that he always treats them right! You can call Tom at 337-478-2886 for an appointment.

Come join us for the first home game this Saturday night, September 13, 2014. The game starts at 6:00 pm in Cowboy Stadium. We expect great things this year.

After watching the jaw-clenching game last weekend between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the MSU Cowboys at Memorial Field, all things are possible for the Cowboys. They held the 19th ranked NCAA Cornhuskers to a 24-24 game until the last 20 seconds when the Cornhuskers scored to win 31-24. Throughout most of the game, the Nebraska fans sat in awe and sometimes perfect silence as they watched the near upset. Come support our boys and enjoy a great ballgame.
