Caddo and Bossier Parish residents will turn out in the thousands for this weekend's Red River Balloon Rally. Attendees can check out the sights from the ground or from the airborne beauties. The four-day event will take place on the campus of Louisiana State University at Shreveport (LSUS), starting Thursday, July 14 and wrapping up Sunday, July 17.

Spectacular sights of some of the most beautiful balloons will take place over our twin cities and throughout Caddo and Bossier Parishes each morning and evening depending on prevailing winds. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door and are good for one day and prices range from $8-$10. Not a lot for a whole lot of fun.

TGIF! It's Shreveport/Bossier City where we work hard and play hard. We absolutely love the weekends as there's always something fun to do. I'm a big fan of the Farmers' Markets as they are the best at providing lots of fresh homegrown produce and meats. And, we get to support our local farmers as this avenue is a big part of their income and often their major source of supporting their families, so it's a win, win for us all.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 1, is the Grand Opening of the one on the Bossier City side of the Red River in the south parking lot of Pierre Bossier Mall. Keep in mind too, that on the other side, Shreveport's Market at Festival Plaza in downtown will still be open, Saturday's only, through August. The one in Bossier City will continue, as well, on Saturdays through December.

I'm actually planning to go to both as the one in Shreveport is from 9 a.m.-noon and the one in Bossier City will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. I usually don't eat breakfast beforehand because there's also fresh and delicious good home-cooked meals often prepared onsite which is also entertaining to watch, and you really know it's fresh. Eating lunch during breakfast time works too.

So, plan to come out, the earlier the cooler, as tomorrow's low temperature is projected to be 71 degrees and the highest to peak at 98, which is a welcomed retreat from the triple digit heat indexes we've battled all week. Happy Weekend!

About mid-week, my work took me to parts in North Bossier Parish and upon my return to the city I couldn't help but notice how fast the construction is progressing on the new Kroger Marketplace. It is located next door to the Wal-Mart Superstore on Airline Drive, just off I-220.

I can only imagine how thrilled the residents are who live in the subdivisions that are in close proximity, and get to frequent this new 120,000 venue, i.e., Oak Alley, Stonebridge, Woodlake Ridge, Plantation Estates, Tiburon, Bridgewater Bay, Cypress Bend, Sweetwater Oaks, Cypress Bay and Cypress Bay Cove, to name a few. Almost forgot...the new store is advertising that they will also sell bed linens, small appliances, clothing, jewelry and fresh flower arrangements.

To boot, following this exquisite new Marketplace, other establishments planned nearby will be a Panera Breads (their soups are my favs), Hobby Lobby and another of my more frequented, Panda Express. I'm excited about the opening, the boost to our economic development and jobs that it will create.
