While fending off the film's stars, gossip columnists, and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Unfortunately, it turns out that Hecht hasn't read the book yet! Frantically, the three men spend five days rewriting one of the most beloved screenplays of all time.

  • Welcome to Hotel Bentley! Walking through the double doors of the Hotel Bentley transported me back to a time filled with elegance and grandeur. This is truly an amazing building to visit.

Hotel Bentley opened its doors in 1908, built by the timber baron Joseph Bentley. The interior is one of Downtown Alexandria's most impressive public spaces. The sumptuous decorative treatments, inspired by the Renaissance Revival and other classical artworks, is executed with Deco flare. Upon entering the lobby, straight ahead is a stunning double staircase with Art Deco style handrails that meet at a landing and then gracefully sweep down to the floor.

The room is dominated by massive columns adorned with a gilded scalloped classical motif. Gazing up at the inside of the dome, you will see a beautifully painted mural and dazzling chandeliers with clear crystal droplets and beads that shine when illuminated, all together reflects a time of class and elegance which is sure to lend a special atmosphere.

How exciting it must have been and still is!
